Google just introduced the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro at an event held Thursday (6/10/2022) night. Both use the latest Tensor system on a chip and the price is unchanged from the previous generation Pixel.
Namely, the Pixel 7 retails for USD 599 and the Pixel 7 Pro for USD 899. The difference between the two is in different screen sizes, 6.3-inch 1080p for the Pixel 7 and 6.7-inch 1440p for the Pixel 7 Pro.
According to Google, this screen uses thinner bezels than the Pixel 6, but still uses the same refresh rate, which is 90Hz for the Pixel 7 and a 120Hz LTPO panel for the Pixel 7 Pro. The difference is, the screen is claimed to be 25% brighter than its predecessor.
The Tensor G2 is paired with 8GB of RAM on the Pixel 7 and 128GB on the Pixel 7 Pro. Google also promises five years of security updates for these two phones.
Both phones are equipped with face unlock and an under-display fingerprint sensor as security features. The battery life is claimed to be the same as its predecessor, which is claimed to last more than 24 hours.
But Google is now equipping it with Extreme Battery Saver mode, which is claimed to make these two phones last up to 72 hours. Charging the battery remains the same, which is 30W via cable, and also supports wireless charging.
Regarding the camera, both use a 50MP sensor for the main camera, the same as the Pixel 6. The difference is, Google offers a 2x mode to crop images and take pictures with a 12MP resolution on the main camera, just like what Apple did on the iPhone 14 Pro.
For the Pixel 7 Pro, there is a telephoto camera with up to 5x magnification, up from 4x on the Pixel 6 Pro. This magnification can be increased digitally by cropping the 48MP sensor used, to 10x magnification.
As for the ultrawide camera, the Pixel 7 is the same as the Pixel 6, and the Pixel 7 Pro has a wider lens with a 125-degree image coverage. What's new in the Pixel 7 is that it now uses the same selfie camera as the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro, with a 10.8MP sensor resolution.
