Injecting USD 11 billion in funds, Mazda will only provide EV and hybrid variants in the future

Mazda Motor Corporation announced plans to renew its automotive business strategy by becoming an electrified vehicle company in the future. The company's intention, which is headquartered in Fuchu, Hiroshima, Japan, is reported to be disbursing up to US$10.6 billion, for the development of electrification vehicles including the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) which will become the Mazda EV family.

According to Mazda's official website, the company estimates that the global Mazda EV sales ratio target will increase between 25 percent and 40 percent in 2030.

"We will promote the full launch of battery-based electric vehicles and consider investing in battery production," Mazda said.

Mazda's plan to change business direction has actually been carried out by a number of automotive manufacturers in the world, which have also spent billions of dollars to increase EV production. Toyota and Honda are no exception.

Even Toyota and Honda, which had previously announced their business plans to switch to EVs, had received criticism from environmental activists, because they were considered slow to enter the electrification era.

Mazda's Strategy to Be an EV

In order to go smoothly towards electrification, Mazda will carry out three phases until 2030. For the first phase, namely in 2022-2024, Mazda will use and utilize its existing assets and technology to enter the electrification era.

In the second phase, in 2025-2027, Mazda will introduce a new hybrid system. Then specifically enter the Chinese automotive market, by launching special EV vehicles, because in the bamboo curtain country the electrification market is progressing.

As a result, Mazda will introduce special EV vehicles as well as launch battery EV vehicles globally. In the third phase in 2028-2030, Mazda will promote the launch of a full battery EV and consider investing in battery production.

Mentioned, Mazda will carry out various collaborative projects with their partners, to hone and adapt to significant environmental changes. Apart from that, Mazda will also invest in human resources, as the main source.
