As the first electric car to use the E-GMP platform, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 has traveled to various countries. One of them is in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, which has even assembled this electric car since early 2022.
As a result, IONIQ 5 gets quite high sales in the electric car segment, even causing an indent for months. Even though the selling price of this car is relatively high, in the range of Rp. 700-800 million.
Furthermore, it is known that this Indonesian-assembled electric car will soon be exported to neighboring countries, one of which is Thailand.
The price of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 in Thailand is cheaper
As reported by Autolifethailand, Saturday (03/12/2022), this import was carried out by utilizing the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) which is not subject to import duties.
Coupled with the subsidies provided by the Thai government in order to increase the adoption of electric vehicles, the selling price of the IONIQ 5 is predicted to be below 2 million baht (Rp. 800 million). Most likely IONIQ 5 will go on sale officially in 2023.
The Hyundai IONIQ 6 has also appeared in Thailand
Currently, Hyundai is showing off its two electric cars, namely the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 at the Thailand Motor Expo 2022. These two electric cars are also accompanied by several products such as Staria, Creta and Stargazer which will also be marketed in the White Elephant Country.
At the same time, Hyundai's sales activities in Thailand will be operated by a new company from April 2023 named Hyundai Mobility (Thailand) Co. Ltd. This company is owned directly by the principal from South Korea.
Previously, sales of Hyundai cars in Thailand were carried out by the Sojitz group from Japan through Hyundai Motor Thailand since 2007. This brand is quite popular thanks to the H-1 or Grand Starex products imported from Indonesia.
It is not yet known what the technical specifications for the IONIQ 5 are for the Thai market, but this electric car comes in three options, namely Standard Range Single Motor (RWD), Long Range Single Motor (RWD), and Long Range Dual Motor (AWD).
