Toyota Fortuner vs Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, are two cars that are often compared. Both of them also fill the ladder frame SUV segment, although in this class there is also the Isuzu MU-X. But for some reason, the Isuzu SUV looks so difficult to compete with the Fortuner and Pajero Sport.
This can be seen from the sales results recorded by GAIKINDO (Indonesian Association of Automotive Industries). So far this year, wholesales (shipments from factories to dealers) for Isuzu MU-X are only 142 units. This figure is certainly far away when compared to the sales of the Fortuner and Pajero Sport.
So what about the fight between the two arch enemies of the Japanese ladder frame SUV this year? Is the Pajero Sport able to excel the Toyota Fortuner, or vice versa, the Fortuner is far behind the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
Toyota Fortuner Master
Still, from GAIKINDO's wholesale data, the Toyota Fortuner seems to dominate the ladder frame SUV segment more often than the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. The Fortuner's success has even been seen since January 2022. At that time, the flagship SUV of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) had sales of 2,492 units.
Then in April, Fortuner won again against Pajero Sport with 2,231 units. The next advantage occurred in July with sales of 2,365 units, and August with 1,818 units. As for last month, Fortuner was able to distribute 2,007 units while Pajero Sport only had 1,165 units.
In total, sales of the Toyota Fortuner during the January-September 2022 period have reached 16,551 units. The most requested Fortuner type is the 2.8 GR Sport AT diesel.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Sticking Tight
Even though it lost several times to the Fortuner, that doesn't mean that Mitsubishi Pajero Sport sales are sluggish. It was proven that in February, March, May and June 2022, the Paris Dakar rally bloody SUV managed to get ahead of the Fortuner.
For example, in March this year, Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) distributed 2,416 units of Pajero Sport. Meanwhile, in the following month, 2,645 Pajero Sport units were sent to dealers.
Furthermore, in May, Pajero Sport recorded sales of 1,834 units. As for June 2022, 2,083 Pajero Sport units were sent to the Mitsubishi dealer network.
In total, this means that 13,883 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport units have been distributed by MMKSI. The Dakar and Dakar Ultimate types are the best-selling Pajero Sport in Indonesia.
