BYD Atto 3 Enters the Japanese Market, But Its Quality is Still Doubtful

BYD Atto 3 has successfully shocked several countries in Asia. Even in Thailand, consumers are willing to stand in line until late at night to be able to order this electric car unit from the Chinese manufacturer.

And starting in January 2023, Atto 3 will enter the Japanese market. This is the first BYD car to officially enter Sakura Country. Along with the announcement of the entry of Atto 3, BYD also opened its first authorized dealer in Yokohama.

The quality of the BYD Atto 3 is Doubtful

Because there are already official dealers, the company also provides several test drive units. Interested consumers can directly contact the showroom to arrange a trial schedule for this new car.

However, BYD's intention to try to compete with Toyota, Honda or Suzuki was scorned by the Japanese public. Some netizens in the country doubt the quality of cars made in China. For example, there is a tweet on social media asking what if the car suddenly breaks down.

"I wonder what to do if this vehicle breaks down? Electric cars made in Japan are difficult to repair, and if it's a car from another country it will be even more terrible," wrote one netizen quoted from Autohome, Monday (06/02/2023).

Another netizen wrote, "Considering that this new car has just been launched, there are almost no charging facilities. It's better to wait and see for a few years."

Some netizens also said it's better to use Japanese cars. "No manufacturer can beat the reliability of Japanese cars, no matter how hard Chinese car companies try."

BYD Wants Consumers to Test First and Then Buy

Tofukuji Atsuki, President of BYD Japan Co., Ltd., responded to these negative comments. According to him, consumers may respond in an unusual way. "For people who are around 60 years old who are similar to me, even though they are cheap, they will still worry about the quality of Chinese car products," he said.

He also emphasized that consumers should test first before commenting. Because of that, BYD also plans to open 100 new dealerships by 2025 and provide lots of test drive cars.

Adpaun several Japanese consumers who have tried this car said that they are very interested. "More like an electronics product than a car, and very cheap and very high-end looking." said some who had tried BYD Atto 3.

Several other customers said after a test drive that the new car was quiet and felt great. "Slightly surprised! It doesn't feel like a Chinese car at all."
