Ford Recall Ranger and Everest Due to Cars Can Stop Suddenly

Ford Australia has just announced the recall of the 2021-2023 Ford Ranger and Everest models due to technical problems that could threaten the safety of their users.

Quoted from 9news.com.au, Thursday (31/08/2023), the Ford Ranger and Everest recall was announced after the Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications issued an official document regarding problems with 4,841 Ranger and Everest units.

The local government also asked the entire Ford dealer network to make improvements to the findings that had been made.

Recall Ford Ranger and Everest Due to E-Shifter Transmission

In the official document, the Australian government said that the problem was with the software in the car.

"Due to a software issue, under certain circumstances if the battery charge drops below a threshold, the transmission may automatically shift to P (Park) while the vehicle is traveling at speeds below 6 km/h," the Australian government said in a statement.

In these conditions, it can later cause the car to stop suddenly without the rear brake light turning on as it should. Thus the note has the potential to cause collisions from behind by other vehicles.

Meanwhile, Australian automotive media, Drive, interviewed a Ford spokesperson, and the manufacturer confirmed that this problem occurs in models that use the E-Shifter (electronic shifter) transmission.

"The issue was with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software which was limiting the alternator's electrical charging," the spokesperson said.

Ford Everest in Indonesia Also Uses E-Shifter

If you look at Ford units in Indonesia, RMA has also just cooked the Ford Ranger and Ford Everest 2023.

However, of the models brought to Indonesia, only the Ford Everets Titanium uses a 10-speed automatic transmission with E-Shifter technology.

Meanwhile, the Everest XLT, Ranger Base, Ranger XLT, Ranger Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor all use a 10-speed automatic transmission.

For information, the Ford Ranger and Everest in Australia were shipped from the Rayong factory in Thailand and from the Silverton factory in South Africa.

For Indonesia, RMA imported Ford units from Thailand, but Muhamad Irvan Mustafa, Marketing Manager of the RMA Group, who we managed to contact, admitted that he had not received any information regarding the recall.

"I'm sorry I haven't even gotten that info yet, but if there's more info I'll try to research it later," he explained via short message.
